Alarm Systems

What types of Burglar Alarm Systems are available?

There are three basic types of burglar alarm systems to choose from. These alarm systems consist of:

  1. Hard Wired Systems – All sensors and other security equipment are connected to an alarm control panel (the brains of an alarm system) by wiring.  This is the most common type available.
  2. Wireless Systems – All sensors and other security equipment work by transmitting their signals without wires to an alarm control panel, which may also include a keypad, siren and two-way voice communicator.  These systems are battery operated.
  3. Camera Alarm Systems – These types of systems are the most technologically advanced available and consist of two variations:
    a. Wireless Camera/Motion Detector Combinations – This type of camera alarm system transmits 10 second video clips of whomever or whatever activated the system to a central monitoring station, and if desired, the alarm system owner via their cell phone, or computer. This system is battery operated and is ideal for locations without electricity, but does need the availability of cellular service.  The system is also used to upgrade existing hard wired and wireless systems.
    b. Wireless or Hard Wired Camera Systems – This type of camera alarm system detects motion through special software in a digital video recorder (DVR), embedded DVR in the camera, or through motion detecting software on a remote server through the internet.  The cameras can then be accessed via the internet by a central monitoring station, and if desired, the alarm system owner by their cell phone, notepad, or computer.
